Earthquake details
An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 hit Hindu Kush region, northern Afghanistan on 26/10/2015 at 09:09 UTC (13:39 local time). The epicentre was located 268 km NE of Kabul, Afghanistan and 77 km SE of Fayzabad, Afghanistan.
As the time of this report, the death toll reached 385 and thousand of people have been injured.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 207 km. At this depth, the seismic waves are less attenuated than if it occurred in the Earth's crust. This explains why the shake was felt in several countries like Pakistan, India, Tajikistan, etc. and as far as the Persic Gulf or Russia more than 2,300 km away of the epicentre.
